Olympic Medal Count Visualization from the NY Times

This example of a time-based bubble chart shows the relative numbers of olympic medals won by country by year. What is a bubble chart? Take a look at this:

The size of the bubble indicates the importance of the value - in this case, the higher the medal count, the bigger the bubble.

The animated nature of these flash-based dashboards and data visualization graphics allow for intuitive analysis, especially for understanding trends over long periods of time. Go to the NY Times Infographic and drag the time slider left and right to get a sense of the value of this sort of display.
